Competition announced: 101 films from 33 countries
This year 101 films from 33 different countries made it into the official competition. Go Short’s extensive competition program is the most important part of the festival and underlines the exclusive focus on young and often still unknown film talent. The official selection will compete for the Go Short Awards, consisting of eight awards and a place on the Oscar long-list.
European Competition
The European competition is made of the 60 best short films of this moment, selected from more than 2500 submissions. More than half will have its Dutch premiere during Go Short. Both internationally acclaimed films (such as the Oscar-nominated Negative Space by Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata and ‘Short of The Year’ The Burden by Niki Lindroth von Bahr) as well as excellent new discoveries are part of the prominent line-up.
Dutch Competition
The official selection of the Dutch competition shows 20 short films by Dutch filmmakers. Among others, the directorial debut of actor Jonas Smulders (Tex, 2017) and new work by Noël Loozen (Botanica, 2017) and festival regular Amos Mulder (Word!, 2017). This year three NTR Kort films are selected: The Funeral of the Shy (Joost van Hezik, 2017), Harbour (Stefanie Kolk, 2017) en #YOLO4REAL (Aiman Hassani, 2017).
Student Competition
The 21 highest rated student films of this year shape the Student competition. Selected films are competing for the Encouragement Award, a prize to stimulate and inspire young, new talent. Three films will have their world premiere, among others the French film Letters To Adja by Marie-Stéphane Imbert.
