The Talent Route at Go Short 2024

Short films are inextricably linked to young and emerging talent. Beginning filmmakers discover their voice and style by making short films. The small budgets and absence of employers or other clients allow for experimentation. By taking risks, talent develops, which in turn leads to exciting work.

Short films are talent development, but talent development does not happen by itself. Go Short offers young film professionals the opportunity to grow. The Go Short Talent Route has been designed to better guide new talent such as film students, self-taught makers and others in their visit to Go Short. The Talent Route guides new talent through the program and ensures that you don’t miss anything.

Will we see you at Go Short? Request your student accreditation here for just €30.

Please note: the student discount also applies to various talent development programs. Are you unsure if you can make use of this discount? Contact us at industry@goshort.nl.

Wednesday, April 3

Start the festival by collecting your festival badge from the guest desk. You need this badge to participate in the professional activities. Make sure you are ready by 4:00 PM so that you can join the city walk. This walkthrough Nijmegen offers the perfect opportunity to meet other professionals. After the walk you can go straight to the daily industry drinks to raise a glass with all your new contacts. In the evening you can watch films and attend Q&As with the attending filmmakers.

Thursday, April 4

On Thursday afternoon you can start at 1:00 PM with the talent talk How to Festival. Here you can discover how to get the most out of your visit to Go Short and hear from other filmmakers how they approach a visit to a festival. Afterwards, you can view the VR program during the VR hours for professionals. At 4:00 PM the case study with the maker in focus will start. Together with the filmmaker, we delve into one of their films and the making process. Today, the industry drinks start at 5:00 PM. In the evening you can of course watch films again and then dance the night away during the first festival party. But don’t overdo it: there’s another full program waiting for you tomorrow.

Friday, April 5

You start slowly at 10:00 am during the breakfast meetings. Armed with a croissant and a cup of coffee or tea, you can chat with interesting film professionals and make new connections. At 11:30 am you can visit the professional masterclass where filmmakers of all levels dive deeper into the creative process. In the afternoon you can attend the second talent talk, which focuses entirely on new filmmakers. You can then proceed to First Impressions where you can show the first minute of your short film and receive feedback from a panel consisting of makers and programmers. At 5:00 PM all professionals return to the industry drinks to chat while enjoying a drink. When evening falls, it is also time to get moving during the second party.

Saturday, April 6

Did you stay up late last night? It’s worth getting out of bed on time today. The program starts at 10:00 with speeddates with other filmmakers. Please note, that you must register for these sessions prior to the festival. After an hour, the speeddates are opened to all filmmakers, also those who did not register. The ultimate opportunity to meet future collaborators. After lunch, you can learn more about the collaboration between directors and composers at the third talent talk. In the afternoon you will have time to do something with your new festival friends, attend a screening, or have a (pre-booked) session with a sustainability consultant. Make sure you’re finished at 4:00 PM so you can attend the last industry drinks. The Go Short awards will be presented on Saturday evening, after which we will celebrate the winners during the third, and final, Go Short party.

Sunday, April 7

On Sunday you can sleep in. The Gelderland Film Meeting does not start until 2:00 PM. Together with regional makers, you will learn more about working with archival material. You can also visit the film blocks with festival favorites. Unfortunately, the festival must come to an end on this day. Is there someone you would like to speak to? Don’t forget to look up the contact details in the delegates list, so that you can send them an email after you get home.

Don’t forget to check out the full program as soon as it is announced. It is possible to deviate from the Talent Route.
