Current Issues: Among Fruiting Bodies

Location: Mariënburgkapel

In the last decade, there has been a growing awareness of how climate change disproportionately affects marginalized communities, most notably BIPOC queer and trans communities. Discourses on ecofeminism and queer ecologies are flourishing, thereby foregrounding the manifold ways that human sexual orientation and gender generates distinct relationships with the more-than-human world. Cinema is slowly following this growing body of critical thinking, with older films getting re-evaluated and some filmmakers actively engaging with these discourses. This program of shorts from recent years focuses on stories about bodies and desires that fall outside of ‘normality’,  or are even deemed disposable. Looking at how they fight extractivist politics, care for their communities and local ecosystems, and – maybe most importantly – celebrate their belonging as part of nature.
