After months of preparation, planning and pre-fun, it was time for our sixteenth edition from April 3 to 7. And it turned out well, if we may say so ourselves. And that was really only possible thanks to you, our visitors! That is why we would like to thank you. The memory of the festival will keep us warm for months to come. Together, we watched the best short films in Europe, welcomed more than 400 film professionals, enjoyed the sun on the terrace at the Mariënburg Chapel, and danced until the late hours. Fortunately, we can still partly relive this edition thanks to all the photos and videos. Will you enjoy a little flashback with us?
Go Short @ Het Waterkwartier
This year we went to the Waterkwartier, where we kicked off the festival with Off the Walls. During this film walk we projected short films on the walls of buildings in the neighborhood, framed by stories of special local residents. During the weekend, a free program was offered, carefully put together in collaboration with local residents. RAW CINEMA invited visitors to immerse themselves in the short film “The Walking Fish”, surrounded by music, art, and interaction. Finally, in collaboration with Club Goud and Griffioen, we presented a film series selected by residents in a pop-up cinema, which reflected the diversity and community spirit in the Waterkwartier.
Industry events for over 400 film professionals
Every year, filmmakers and other film professionals from all over Europe travel to Nijmegen to participate in our Industry Program. Here they can meet each other in an accessible way to share their own experiences and learn from experts. This year had a packed program including master classes on putting together an inclusive cast, a meet-up on the topic of combatting undesirable behavior during festivals, networking drinks, round table talks and much more!
The first edition of the Dutch Short Film Pitch
In collaboration with Screen Talent NL, we organized the Dutch Short Film Pitch for the first time this year. Here, ten short film projects were given the opportunity to pitch their project to film professionals. The projects are all (co-)produced in the Netherlands. Five were already in production, the other five were in development. The four winning makers have been rewarded with attractive cash prizes and/or coaching on their project. These were the winners:
- Best pitch of the film in development: Désirée Pfenninger with the film ‘EVERY CHILD COSTS THE MOTHER ONE TOOTH’
- Best pitch of the film in production: Naomi Pacifique with the film ‘in the heart there is a stone’
- Most promising film in development: Froukje van Wengerden with the film ‘The years in which I don’t film’
- Most promising film in production: Dahania Candelo with the film ‘TOLK’
