The average person streams five hours of content daily, collectively accounting for an estimated 1-2% of global CO2 emissions, driven by the energy demands of data centers worldwide. This program explores the history, present, and future of streaming: from early video transmission via telephone (1980) to contemporary ‘sleep streamers’ who broadcast their lives even when asleep. Can we find alternatives for our data-consuming streaming habbits? The film Odamado investigates, for example, storing data on DNA, and with a selection of films from the Small File Media Festival, we explore a counter-movement dedicated to making films of just a few megabytes.
This is a program in collaboration with The Hmm.
