In the VPRO Vertical Video program, we zoom in on the phenomenon of vertical video. After decades in which video was naturally horizontal (16 x 9), vertical video (9 x 16) has been gaining ground for about ten years now—after all, we are watching more and more video on our smartphones. It's time to take this format seriously! What new creative possibilities does vertical video offer? And what are the challenges? VPRO editor-in-chief Annelies Termeer gives a brief overview of the genre, and host Deborah Fidder talks to vertical filmmakers (including Hannah Swart and Jikke de Gruijter). And we show lots of vertical videos on that old-fashioned horizontal cinema screen.

This program will be presented in Dutch.
