What is Go Short?

Go Short is a place for short films, where creators, audiences, and the film industry come together to discover and discuss new films. We provide a platform for emerging filmmakers, organize workshops, networking events, and screenings, and create a space for the public and professionals to meet and find inspiration. All year round, with our main event being the largest annual short film festival in the Netherlands.

Where does Go Short take place?

The annual Go Short film festival takes place in Nijmegen, featuring screenings, workshops, and other events at various locations, including the LUX cinema. In the fall, we also organize a Go Short edition in Arnhem. Additionally, we offer programs available across the country and online.

What kind of films are shown at Go Short?

Go Short showcases a wide range of short films, from experimental to comedy and documentary to fiction. The festival focuses on innovative and boundary-pushing stories that represent diverse styles, genres, and perspectives. All short films have a maximum runtime of 30 minutes.

How long (or short) are short films?

Short films last a maximum of 30 minutes.

Festival

Is the festival accessible for people with physical disabilities?

LUX is wheelchair accessible, and all rooms (except room 7) can be reached by wheelchair users. However, special wheelchair spaces need to be arranged in advance. Therefore, we ask you to contact LUX beforehand so we can make the necessary arrangements. For questions regarding the accessibility of other locations or any other considerations, please contact us at info@goshort.nl.

Are there food and drink facilities available at the festival location?

Yes! Both inside and around LUX, you can enjoy drinks and delicious food.

How are the film programs structured?

An average of 3-6 short films are shown in a film program. Together, they explore different aspects of a single overarching theme. The film blocks typically last about 1.5 hours.

Are there breaks in the film programs?

No, the film programs are without a break.

Are the films subtitled?

Most films have English subtitles, except for the english spoken films. The Comedy Shorts and Oscar Shorts have Dutch subtitles. For specific information about each program, please refer to the program description.

What does the post-screening discussion with a filmmaker or crew member involve?

After the film, there will be a discussion between the students and the filmmaker or a crew member, led by a Go Short moderator. This encourages students to interpret the films they've seen, view them critically, and learn from them.

Are there special screenings or programs aimed at children?

Definitely. For the youngest (2+), we have Go Short x LUX Mini. We also offer film programs for ages 5+ and 9+.

Can I use the CJP budget for Go Short's educational programs?

Yes! Go Short accepts the CJP Culture Card.

Where do the educational programs take place?

The school screenings take place at the LUX cinema in Nijmegen.

I have my own plan for a school screening, is that possible?

Pop-up

What excactly is Off the Walls?

In Off the Walls, local residents take the lead. During a walk through their city, neighborhood, or village, they guide you past buildings or places that are important to the community. Using a projector, a film is shown at each location. Together, you walk along various spots on a pre-determined route.
