LUX 3

The average person streams five hours of content daily, collectively accounting for an estimated 1-2% of global CO2 emissions, driven by the energy demands of data centres worldwide. This program explores the history, present, and future of streaming: from early video transmissions via telephone (1980) to contemporary ‘sleep streamers’ who broadcast their lives even when asleep. Can we find alternatives for our data-consuming streaming habits? The film ‘Odamado’, for example,  investigates storing data on DNA, and a selection of films from the Small File Media Festival zooms in on a counter-movement dedicated to making films of just a few megabytes.

This is a program in collaboration with The Hmm.
